SUMMARY
Clinical and microbiological effectiveness of topical norfloxacin 0,3% were evaluated against 23 strains of Staphylococcus aureus and 15 strains of anaerobic bacteria from 27 outpatients with infectious external superficial ocular diseases.
The microbiological effectiveness of norfloxacin was compared with gentamicin, tobramicin, cloranfenicol, cyprofloxacin, nalidixic acid, ofloxacin, cefalotin, antimicrobial association (oftrim), vancomycin and amycacin, before and after the course of topical norfloxacin 0,3%. The clinical effectiveness was achieved in 83,3% of the outpatients with infectious external superficial ocular disease caused by S. aureus.
None of the anaerobial microrganisms was sensitive to norfloxacin.
