PURPOSE: To describe a patient with Graves' orbitopathy who presented with loss of vision of the left eye for 9 months and amaurosis of the right eye for 20 days. METHODS: Bilateral inferomedial transnconjunctival orbital decompression was performed. RESULTS: After orbital decompression, vision slowly improved and ten months after the surgery the vision was normal in both eyes. CONCLUSIONS: Orbital decompression can reestablish optic nerve function at least 20 days after amaurosis.
