SUMMARY
In a retrospective study, 268 patients underwent pars plana vitrectomy under local anesthesia with sedation. Surgery for all of the patients receiving local anesthesia was uneventful, and there was no need to administer general anesthesia intraoperatively. A mixture of equal parts of Bupivacaine 0.75% and Lidocaine 2% with epinephrine (1:100.000) (with 150 IU of hyaluronidase added) was used as retrobulbar and peribulbar anesthesfa with good results. Sedation done by an experienced anesthesiologist was important to the success of the procedure.
