SUMMARY
We present two siblings with the association of bilateral keratoconus and mental retardation, whose parents were consanguine. Genetic avaliation revealed an autossomal recessive inheritance. One patient underwent penetrating keratoplasty and developed an infectious keratitis in which clinical treatment was successful. Good results can be obtained in penetrating keratoplasty for mentally retarded patients if they are elegible for the procedure.
