SUMMARY
The current study aimed to analyse the way physicians and patients manage the prevention and treatment of diabetic retinopathy in our State. The authors interviewed 47 patients, from both private and social services, and 45 internists and endocrinologists. The results denoted that only 29, 7% of the patients were referred to an ophthalmologist by their physician, 80,7% eventually checked glucoseleveis and just 10% followed a straight fine of treatment. Among the physicians only 22% used to perform routine ophthalmoscopy and just 44% correctly sugested complete eye examination.
