Biomicroscopic, tensional and ophthalmoscopic aspects of aniridia

SUMMARY

The results from biomicroscopy, tensional and ophthalmoscopic study of 67 eyes (35 patients) with aniridia are presented. Glaucoma had been found in 14 eyes of 8 patients. Through applanation tonometry and daily curve of IOP it was found a gradual increase of IOP with age statistically different from the normal eyes. The anterior ocular segment presented changes as a whole (keratometric, depth of the anterior chamber and lens thickness besides others biomicroscopic and gonioscopic changes). Abnormal lens curvature was found in 40 eyes (inverted lens curvature in 30 eyes and simmetric in 10 eyes). The scleral rigidity presented itself high. On ophthalmoscopy, 90.5% of the eyes presented lack of the macular and foveal reflexes. Microdiscs (reduced optic disc diameters) were comproved by measurements in 18 from 19 eyes.
