SUMMARY
A survey was made with the objective to know the prevalence of inflammatory trachoma in preschool and school children in Franco da Rocha and Francisco Morato in order to set up an intervention program to control the disease.
A total of 1057 preschool and school children was examined having been selected from a sample of preschool and schools. The data was collected from interviews and external ocular exams.
The prevalence of total trachoma found was 2.5%, 1.5% of wich being inflammatory trachoma. Other ocular diseases were also found.
Although, the prevalence found was low compared with other endemic areas in the state, it is important to consider the implantation of a trachoma control program in the area.
