SUMMARY
We present five cases of corneal ulcer in which corneal biopsies were performed, with histopathological and cultural studies. The ethiological agent was identified in all cases. Histopathology and culture of specimens revealed fungi in three cases and “Acanthamoeba” in one case as the causative agents. The other case was positive for herpes virus simplex in an immunoperoxidase test.
Corneal biopsy is a very useful tool for the diagnosis of corneal infections in cases where the ethiological agent has not been identified.
