A comparative experimental study on the antithrombotic efficacy of conventional heparin and low molecular weight heparin

A prospective randomized blind trial was performed, comparing the antithrombotic efficacy (reduction of weigth thrombi) of two heparines with low molecular weight and unfractionated calcium heparine. It was used two differents models of experimental venous thrombosis: in the first group, a combination of endothelial injury and flow reduction, was used to induce jugular vein thrombosis in New Zealand rabbits, 30 with etanolamine, and other 30 with glucose 50%. In the second group, venous stasis was used to induce cava vein thrombosis in 30 female Wistar rats. No significant differences on reduction of thrombus weigth were found on both groups. There was no relationship betwen thrombotic agents and experimental thrombosis model. Etanolamin induced thrombosis more significantly in group I.
