The experiment’s objective was to compare hemogasometric changes and possible complications during and after Right Intercostal Thoracotomy, Partial Median Sternotomy and Total Median Sternotomy; determining which technique(s) would produce less problems. Eighteen dogs were used, without any breeding, all adults, males and females, weighting between fifteen and twenty kilos and with health judged satisfactory for the experiment. The dogs were divided in three groups of six, according to the operative technique established: GROUP A - animals submitted to right intercostal thoracotomy; GROUP B - animals submitted to partial median sternotomy and GROUP C - animals submitted to total median sternotomy. Complications trans and postoperative, cardiac frequency, respiratory frequency, temperature, oxygenation, ventilation, acid-basic status, fistula presence and suture dehiscence were explored. As result the three techniques were available, because allowed satisfactory postoperative recuperation. Comparatively it didn’t have any important alteration of pH, blood gases and pain.
