Immediate results of inguinal hernia repair with local anesthesia associated with sedation

PURPOSE: To present the immediate results of the inguinal hernia repair with local anesthesia associated with sedation. METHODS: Thirty patients were operated on of which 26 (86,6%) were male. The age varied from 21 to 76, and the average was of 47 years. The anesthetics used were lidocaine and bupivacaine, and the sedation was accomplished with midazolan. RESULTS: Among the complications was observed: 1 (3,3%) bruising; 1 (3,3%) blood; and 1 (3,3%) case of infection of the operative wound. Early rise in 28 patients (93,3%), as well as the oral feeding. The average time of internment was of 18 hours, and the pain score in the analogical visual scale (A.V.S.) was smaller or equal to 3 in 24 patients (80%). CONCLUSION: The local anesthesia for the inguinal hernia repair is a safe and effective method in selected patients.
