Abstract:
In 1911, in the article in which he systematized the duality of principles (of pleasure and reality) that governs the psychic functioning, Freud devotes an entire paragraph to art. We started from this summary characterization to verify that, although it is foregrounded by Freud, art (and literature) occupies a dubious position within his theorization. We then parted to two moments of Freud’s work (an excerpt from the Interpretation of Dreams and the Complement B from the Group Psychology), in which the literary writer is analysed by Freud, in order to deepen our analysis and, finally, to indicate a possible point of encounter between literary writing and analytical theorization.
