Abstract:
This article traverses a course around the contemporariness of the performance as an act of language with its own effectiveness in the field of gender, in street politics, and in psychoanalysis. In addition to these domains, contemporary art is also cited as illustrative of current performance. The parody, an important component in gender performance, is linked to the Lacanian concept of semblant. We probe the way performative language functions in these diverse fields as a form of act worth of words, an act that is also an utterance. Moreover, the presence of the body is emphasized as a central and essential factor in the performative act.
