THERMAL EXIGENCY AND ESTIMATIVE OF NUMBER OF GENERATIONS OF OPHYRA AENESCENS WIEDEMANN, 1830 (DIPTERA, MUSCIDAE, AZELIINAE), IN PELOTAS, RS

ABSTRACT

The objective of this work was to estimate by the Hiperbole Method, the thermal exigency of each development stage of Ophyra aenescens and the number of generations per month and per year in Pelotas, RS. A colony to obtain eggs, larvae, pupae and adults, was established under laboratory conditions. Every stage was maintained at constant temperature (15oC, 20oC, 25oC and 30oC) with RH of 90% ± 5. The basal temperature of egg, larvae, pupae, preoviposition and total life cycle (egg to egg) were respectively 8.3oC; 10.4oC; 9.1oC; 8.4oC; and 9.4 oC. The values for thermal constants were, in order, 20.0; 90.3 159.8; and 376.5 GD (Degree day). In this experiment the mean number of generations in one year was 9.4, ranging from 8.82 to 9.82. Keeping the regulation at 30oC at laboratory conditions, it is possible to obtain 19.9 generations in one year, with 75.97% of viability.
