ABSTRACT
Radioactive probes were synthesized for the simultaneous detection of tospoviruses by a quick and sensitive dot blot hybridization assay. Total RNA of Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) - infected Nicotiana benthamiana plants was used as template for RT-PCR using sequences of the nucleoprotein (N) and polymerase (L) genes as oligonucleotide primers. Hybridization assays using N gene-derived probes were found to be TSWV-specific, whereas the L gene-derived probe was able to detected all tospoviruses simultaneously.
