REFERENCE VALUES OF THE UREA AND CREATINE SERUN LEVELS OF JERSEY BREED, RAISED IN THE SÃO PAULO STATE. THE INFLUENCE OF AGE, SEXUAL FACTORS AND OF THE INFECTION BY THE BOVINE LEUKOSIS VIRUS

ABSTRACT

With the purpose of establishing reference values for the biochemical parameters with wich to evaluate the renal function through the determination of the blood-serum levels of urea and creatinine of Jersey breed cows, raised in São Paulo State, as well as to evaluate the influence of age, sexual factors and the infection by the bovine leukosis virus on the biochemical parameters mentioned, samples of blood sera from 171 animals were collected and examined, being 106 females and 18 males clinically healthy and non-reagent to the glycoproteic antigen of the bovine leukosis virus capsule, and 47 cows sororeagent to the above mentioned virus. The evaluation of the bovine serum biochemical results from the Jersey cows raised the state of São Paulo allowed to establish the reference values of renal function of this bovine breed, have been found the following mean values : urea 28.35 ± 10.94 mg/dL and creatinine 1.35 ± 0.21 mg/dL. The evaluation of the influence of the age factors of these patterns values showed that urea serum rates had a gradual increase with age, and similarly, the analysis of the results showed an influence of the sexual factors, since the serum urea levels found in females were higher when compared to the values found in males. The evaluation of the influence of the infection by bovine leukosis virus on the serum urea levels did not show the influence of these factors on the values studied. With regard to the serum creatinine, the comparison of the results showed that young animals until 12 months old had lower levels than values found in old animals.

Sexual factors and infection by bovine leukosis virus on the creatinine serum rates did not influence creatinine rates.
