ADSORPTION OF IRON IONS BY SACCHAROMYCES CEREVISIAE FLOCCULATED BY ELECTROLYTIC PROCESS

ABSTRACT

Flocculation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae can be induced by an electrolytic process using cast-iron electrodes. The amount of iron ions liberated in different times of electrolyses was analyzed in the absence and in the presence of the yeast. It was observed that the amount of iron ions liberated in solution was 10 times bigger in the suspensions of yeast than in saline solutions without S. cerevisiae.
