MODE OF ACTION OF MELIACEAE EXTRACTS ON THE TUTA ABSOLUTA (MEYRICK, 1917) (LEPIDOPTERA: GELECHIIDAE)

ABSTRACT

This work aimed to determine the mode of action of Trichilia pallida leaf extracts (aqueous and chloroformic) on the Tuta absoluta. These extracts were compared to the aqueous extract of Azadirachta indica (neem) seeds. For the determination of systemic, translaminar and topical effects, these extracts were applied in the soil, in the adaxial surface of the tomato plant foliole and directly over the insect, respectively. According to the results it was possible to conclude that aqueous and chloroformic extracts of T. pallida leaves disrupt T. absoluta development, even so they are less efficient than aqueous extract of neem seeds. These extracts have a translaminar, systemic and topical mode of action, being the translaminar effect being more pronounced than the others.
