LOSSES CAUSED BY SITOPHILUS ORYZAE (LINNÉ, 1763) AND SITOPHILUS ZEAMAIS MOTSCHULKY, 1855 (COLEOPTERA: CURCULIONIDAE) IN RICE CULTIVARS (ORYZA SATIVA L.)

ABSTRACT

The objective of the research was determine the loss caused by Sitophilus zeamais and Sitophilus oryzae in rice Oryza sativa L., in some cultivars of State of Piauí: Metica-1 irrigado, Araguaia unirrigated, Uruçuí unirrigated, Diamante irrigated, Primavera unirrigated Cica-9 irrigated, Uruçuí unirrigated, Canastra unirrigated, Paranaíba unirrigated and Caiapó, with bark and without bark. The experiments were conducted in the laboratory with a temperature of 30 ± 2o C and relative humidity of 51 ± 5%. Every treatment had 4 replicates with 20 insects and 200 grams of beans each, for a total of 80 insects and 800 grams per treatment. Every 15 days the recipients were weighed and the values of loss weight noted during 6 months. The results show that the irrigated Cica-9 variety with bark and without bark was more resistant.
