POPULATION FLUCTUATION OF SPECIES OF OPHYRA ROBINEAU-DESVOYDI (DIPTERA, MUSCIDAE, AZELIINAE) IN PELOTAS, RS

ABSTRACT

In order to survey the Ophyra species that occur in Pelotas and estimate population fluctuation three W.O.T. (Wind Oriented Trap) traps were established at the university campus for three years. The traps were baited with decaying bovine liver. A total of 132,466 Diptera were captured, 5,607 (4.23%) belonging to the genera Ophyra, represented by the species O. aenescens; O. albuquerquei; O. chalcogaster and O. solitaria with the respective frequencies of 1.59%, 2.15%, 0.45% and 0.04%. It was observed that in the months with mean temperature lower than 15.4oC, there was no capture of Ophyra. During the experimental period, the relative density of Ophyra species demonstrated significant difference, among the months and years.
