CAPRINE ARTHRITIS-ENCEPHALITIS VIRUS LEVELS IN THE SÃO PAULO STATE ESCRITÓRIO DE DEFESA AGROPECUÁRIA AND MAPPING ON A GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM

ABSTRACT

Blood was collected from 1,030 caprine from 17 farms in 11 of the 29 regional offices of the São Paulo State Escritório de Defesa Agropecuária (EDA) for anti-CAEV antibody research, using agar gel immunodiffusion and mapping occurrence rates on a Geographical Mapping System - GIS. The study used the binomial proportion test, with construction of the 95% interval of positivity with all results discussed at 5% significance. All evaluated farms had CAE occurrences equivalent to 37.93% of the 29 regional EDA with the disease, totalling 443 infected caprine. There was a predominance of negativity in relation to positivity (P < 0.0001), with a statewide positivity mean of 43.01% ± 3.20. The farms that imported animals from France had higher positive levels than those imported from Germany. This higher number in comparison to São Paulo State has also been seen in farms with imported animals from Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, states which border the five regional EDA where positivity rates between 40 and 60% were detected.
