CANINE BRUCELLOSIS - CASE REPORT

ABSTRACT

This study reports canine brucellosis in a threeyears-old animal. Clinical examination showed left testicular enlargment, with no evidence of local trauma. Cytologic evaluation by fine-needle aspiration of the affected testicle allowed Brucella canis isolation. Treatment was based in systemic antibiotic (rifampicin and streptomycin), and castration. Histopathologic examination demonstrated right testicular neutrophil infiltrative lesion and coagulation necrosis, and left testicular mononuclear infiltrative lesion. Blood, urine and prostatic fluid cultures were negative to agent isolation. Rapid slide agglutination test and agar-gel immunodiffusion test were positive, as well as in two contactant females.
