ENTERITIS IN CAPTIVE WILD FOWLS (ODONTOPHURUS CAPUEIRA CAPUEIRA) SPIX, 1825

ABSTRACT

A severe case of enteritis in wild fowls, uru (Odontophurus capueira capueira, Spix, 1825) mantained in captivity is described. Four birds died after showing bloody diarrhoea. Liver and intestines collected from those animals and submitted to histological examination showed hepatitis and enteritis, both necrotic. C. perfringens was isolated from the intestines. In the intestinal content were observed roundworms of Heterakis fariai (Travassos, 1913). It is considered that the disease was installed by the worms' presence. Some aspects of ulcerative enteritis are discussed.
