EVALUATION OF NATURAL PRODUCTS IRRADIATED FOR THE CONTROL OF BLATTELLA GERMANICA (L.) (DICTYOPTERA: BLATTELLIDAE)

ABSTRACT

This work aimed to evaluate the effect of irradiated aqueous, hexanic and ethanolic extracts of Solanum paniculatum, Dahlia pinnata, Lycopersicon esculentum, Nephrolepis pectinata, Ruta graveolens, Ficus elastica, Lavandula angustifolia, Rhododendron simsii, Agave angustifolia, Ocimum basilicum, Coffea arabica and Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, in order to identify new substances for integrated pest management (IPM) and to observe possible effects of gamma radiation such as increase, reduction, activation and inactivation of the same for pest control. It evaluated the effect by ingestion in Blattella germanica. For irradiation an experimental irradiator of Cobalt-60, type Gammacell 220 was used. The natural products were submitted to increasing doses of gamma radiation: 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 kGy. The gamma radiation increased the efficiency of ethanolic extract of D. Pinnata with dose of 7.5 kGy, showing 48.0% of efficiency on B. germanica nymphs. The gamma radiation showed adverse effect on the aqueous extract of R. Graveolens, decreasing its efficiency of 20.0% to 2.0% in doses of 2.5, 7.5 and 10.0 kGy and 4.0% at a dose of 5.0 kGy. According to results we verified that the gamma radiation interferred on behavior of natural products for pest control and it can result in increase, reduction, activation and inactivation of the same.
