ANATOMO-HISTO-PATHOLOGICAL LESIONS IN BULLFROGS (RANA CATESBEIANA, SHAW, 1802) ASSOCIATED WITH FEED DETERIORATION.

ABSTRACT

This article describes a great mortality of bullfrogs, in a frog farm near São Paulo City. There was observed apathy, inappetence, reduced growth rate, prolapse of rectum and lost of muscular tonnus. The anatomo-histo-pathologic lesions were observated in liver, friable, with alterations of colour and hiperthofic, and hidropic degeneration; in intestines, enteritis, epithelial descamation and atrophy of vilosities; in hearth, dissociation of cardiac musculature, and in spleen, degeneration. These lesions suggest an intoxication with proteic deficiency. The presence of aflatoxin was negative. The farmer feeded the frogs with feed storaged in bad conditions. The storage of feed in apppropiate places and knowledge of any signals of deteriorated feed is very important to avoid those cases, with a ideal management of feed stock. The stoped of alimentation by any days for the change of feed is preferable to avoid the consequent serious motivated by deteriorated feed.
