ABSTRACT
The aim of the present work was to verify the susceptibility of Escherichia coli strains from avian origin to some antimicrobial drugs of veterinary and/or human use. One hundred and twenty strains were analyzed, all isolated at the Laboratory of Descalvado from commercial avians. Ten antimicrobial drugs were tested. Seventy-six percent of the strains were resistant to tetracicline. The most efficient drug was fosfomycin. Only 7 strains were sensitive for all the tested drugs, 20 of them presented resistance to 1 or 2 drugs, while 93 strains were demonstrated multidrug-resistant (resistant to 3 or more antimicrobials). No drug was efficient for all the analysed strains.
