EFFECT OF GAMMA RADIATION (Co60) ON THE DEVELOPMENT STAGES OF THE MOTH OPOGONA SACCHARI (BOJER, 1856) (LEPIDOPTERA:TINEIDAE)

ABSTRACT

The research had the aim of evaluating the effects of gamma radiation (Co60) effects on the development stages of the moth Opogona sacchari. O. sacchari rearing was initiated through infested Dracaena fragans stalks from Juquiá, state of São Paulo. A source of cobalt-60, model Gammacell 220 with activity around 540.00 Ci was used as irradiator. Tests were realized with doses between 5.0 and 500.0 Gy. The doses of 140.0; 240.0 and 450.0 Gy were lethal to eggs seven days old, larvae 22 days old and pupae 11 days old, respectively.
