INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT OF SOYBEAN PESTS: EFFECT OF INSECTICIDES ON NATURAL ENEMIES

ABSTRACT

This research aimed to evaluate the effect of the insecticides Actara Mix 330 CE and Curyom 550 CE on some natural enemies found in soybean crop. The insecticides Actara Mix (200 mL /ha), Actara Mix (200 mL /ha) + sodium cloride (0.5%), Actara Mix (100 mL /ha) + Curyom (150 mL) and Curyom (150 mL) were tested under field conditions. Thiodan (500 mL) + salt was used as control. Evaluations were made before the applications and 2, 7, and 15 days after. In laboratory conditions, the compatibility of Nomurae riley, Beauveria bassiana and Bacillus thuringiensis with the insecticides Actara Mix, Curyon and Thiodan was studied. The parameters evaluated were vegetative growth, production and conidia viability for the fungi, and colony forming units for the bacteria. The insecticides did not effect the colonization of Anticarsia gemmatalis and Cerotoma sp. by the fungi N. rileyi and B. bassiana, respectively. Some effect was observed on spiders and egg parasites in the first week after the application. Meanwhile, the mortality of the natural enemies did not surpass 50%, except for Thiodan (62%). In the laboratory, Actara Mix did not effect the growth of the fungi. Curyon and Thiodan reduced the spores production of B. basiana and completely inhibited the formation of B. thuringiensis colonies. Curyon reduced the conidia germination of N. rileyi.
