INFLUENCE OF BEANS LINES CARRIED OF ARCELIN PROTEIN IRRADIATED ABOUT THE REPRODUCTION OF Acanthoscelides obtectus (SAY) (COLEOPTERA: BRUCHIDAE)

ABSTRACT

The present work had the objective of evaluating the possible levels of resistance of lines beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) carries of arcelin protein, in relationship to oviposition of the bean weevil Acanthoscelides obtectus (Say, 1831) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae), through confinement tests. Seeds of four lines of beans carries of arcelin protein (Arcelin-1, Arcelin-2, Arcelin-3 and Arcelin-4) were submitted to four doses of gamma radiation of Cobalt-60: 0 (witness); 0.5; 1.0 and 2.0 kGy, with five repetitions for each treatment. The results obtained showed that the gamma radiation doses did not influence the parameters evaluated. The lines Arcelin-3 and 2 showed the lesser oviposition and emergency of insects respectively, and differed from line Arcelin-1, that was the most oviposited and with the larger number of emerged insects, suggesting a possible resistance of the lines Arcelin-3 and 2 in relationship to this bean weevil.
