IDENTIFICATION OF RESISTANT MAIZE TO MAIZE WEEVIL SITOPHILUS ZEAMAIS (MOTS., 1855) (COLEOPTERA: CURCULIONIDAE)

ABSTRACT

The resistance of different corn materials to the maize weevil Sitophilus zeamais (Mots., 1855) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) was evaluated. It were carried out atractivity (free choice) and confinement (no choice) tests in witch was analyzed the attractiveness, development period, weight and number of emerged adults for each material. It was verified in all materials feeding or oviposition nonpreference or antibiosis resistance. CD 3211 and CDX 97D01 showed less susceptibility to the weevil. CD 3121 was highly susceptible and CDX 97T01, OC 202 and OC 705 presented intermediate values for most of evaluated variables.
