SURVEY AND TRITROPHIC INTERACTIONS OF FIGITIDS (HYMENOPTERA: EUCOILINAE) PARASITOIDS OF FRUGIVOROUS LARVAE (DIPTERA) IN BRAZIL

ABSTRACT

Eucoilinae are koinobiont endoparasitoids of larvae of dipterous Cyclorrapha. Several species have been associated to frugivorous fly larvae (Tephritidae, Lonchaeidae and Drosophilidae). However, the knowledge about these parasitoids is very scarce in Brazil. The objectives of this paper were to update the information about survey and tritrophic interactions. There were examined 4,602 eucoilines from 13 states of all Brazilian regions. From these, 2,170 specimens were collected in McPhail traps hung in 7 fruit-bearing tree species. There were identified 6 Eucoilinae species: Aganaspis pelleranoi (Brèthes), Dicerataspis grenadensis Ashmead, Leptopilina boulardi (Barbotin, Carton & Kelner-Pillaut), Lopheucoila anastrephae (Rhower), Odontosema albinerve Kieffer and Trybliographa infuscata Gallardo, Diaz & Uchôa. The most common species were A. pelleranoi (34.20%), L. boulardi (24.16%) and D. grenadensis (16.71%). Dicerataspis grenadensis and L. boulardi were obtained exclusively from drosophilid larvae. It was not possible to associate any Eucoilinae species to fruit flies (Tephritoidea). The parasitoids were recovered from frugivorous larvae in 36 species of fruits belonging to 14 families. Fruits of Myrtaceae and Anacardiaceae were the most attractive for Eucoilinae species. This group was associated to frugivorous larvae in fruit in decomposition on the ground, namely A. pelleranoi, D. grenadensis, L. boulardi, O. albinerve and T. infuscata, besides some specimens of the Ganaspis group.
