ABSTRACT

The control of Heterotermes tenuis (Hagen) and Cornitermes cumulans (Kollar) was evaluated using the Termitrap bait/trap with the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill., isolate 634 (from Solenopsis invicta F. Smith) in association with insecticide Fipronil in sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) plantation. The experiment was conducted in Altinópolis, SP. The treatments consisted of Fipronil 0.003% + B. bassiana; Fipronil 0.003%; Fipronil 0.001%; Fipronil 0.01%, B. bassiana and control. Each treatment was replicated four times. The portions were constituted of 10 baits with treatment, being 5 to 3 meters of the central focus the right and 5 to 3 meters to the left, 60 m². In the center of each portion, two untreated baits were installed. The evaluations were made after 30, 60 and 90 days. It was verified that for C. cumulans, the treatments in general caused a decrease of the population, even so it was more significant at 90 days, in the treatment Fipronil 0.01%, where the concentration of the insecticide was larger, but not repellent, since there were visitation and damages in the treated baits. The average of the population scores of H. tenuis was larger at 30, 60 and 90 days in Control. In the B. bassiana treatment , there was noticed a decrease from 30 to 60 days and a small increase of the average at 90 days. In the treatments Fipronil 0.001% and Fipronil 0.01% there was only a small population at 60 days. In the treatment Fipronil 0.003% there was observed the total elimination of the population after 90 days and in the treatment Fipronil 0.003% + B. bassiana the average of the population scores was zero in the three evaluations.
