OCCURRENCE OF INFECTIOUS BURSAL DISEASE POST VACCINATION WITH LOW PASSAGE ATTENUATED VACCINE

ABSTRACT

The present artcle reports the occurrence of an outbreak of IBD in layer chickens, with 8 weeks of age, 4 days post-vaccination with low passage attenuated vaccine. The clinical signs were characterized by manifestations of depression, anorexia, watery diarrhea, rufflet feathers, trembling, severe prostration and death. At necropsy there were found haemorrhages in skeletal muscles and in the mucosa at the juncture of the proventriculus and gizzard, tumefaction of kidneys and bursa with gelatinous edematous. Histopathological lesions in the bursa consisted of inflammatory response with interfolicular edema and herophil infiltration, congestion, hemorrhage and necrosis of follicles. This case showed that the gross and histopatologic lesions were a result of formation of immune complexes similar to an Arthus reaction.
