DAMAGE OF SLUGS (SARASINULA PLEBEIA FISCHER) ON BEANS (PHASEOLUS VULGARIS L.)

ABSTRACT

The injuries caused by slugs (Sarasinula plebeia Fischer) on dry bean plants (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) were evaluated on a cultivars competition trial during the dry season of beans in 1993 at Estação Experimental Holambra II in Paranapanema, SP. The evaluation of percentage of leaf destruction by slugs was carried out in the cultivars Carioca, IAC-Carioca, Aeté-3, Aysó, Pintado, Jalo, IPA-6, EMGOPA-201-Ouro, IAPAR-14, IAPAR-31, IAPAR-44 and in the line LM 30-380. The results showed that all cultivars were affected by slugs in different intensities. The cultivar IPA-6 was the most tolerant and Carioca was the most susceptible. There was a reduction in the attack of slugs in some cultivars when fungicides and some pesticides were utilized.
