Abstract
Unlike the growing research on Oduvaldo Vianna Jr., Oduvaldo Vianna Sr. has few works written on his work and none that focus on his reflective theatre project, the Brazilian sainete. Given this repeated absence, the aim of this article is to recover the Brazilian sainete and the figure of its forgotten playwright, Oduvaldo Vianna Sr. We seek to present this popular dramatic genre that has been generally despised by historiography and understand the relationship that sainete bears with society and with the cultural heterogeneity contemporary to its production.
