Notas sobre a recepção e presença do surrealismo no Brasil nos anos 1920-1950

After briefly situating the emergence of Surrealism in the years 1919-1924 and pointing out some elements of the cultural transference processes between Europe and the Americas, as well as some elements of the reception of Surrealism in Latin America, this paper explores the arrival of Surrealism in Brazil, after the mid-1920s, and its expression in the journal Estética and in the cultural movement of Anthropophagy. Next, it attempts to situate Surrealism in Brazil in the 1930s and 1940s, establishing its relation to the cultural context of the Getulio Vargas period. Finally, this work studies the 1950s and 1960s, high lighting the second stay of Benjamin Péret in Brazil, the Maria Martins exposition at the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro (MAM-RJ), the activities of Sergio Lima and the beginning of the Surrealist Group of São Paulo-Rio de Janeiro.
