Resisting together. Disenchantment and aesthetic conversion in brazilian poetics

ABSTRACT

Amidst cultural manifestations that took place in Latin America in the 1970s, we can trace distinctive turning points and radicalization incidents at a regional level. Ferreira Gullar (1930-2016) and Hélio Oiticica (1937-1980) created manifestos, objects, and poems in the context of the Brazilian dictatorship, defying the censorship enforced by the regime. Interweavings can be traced between certain traits in their writings and the condition of disenchantment perceived by the artistic community back then, which led to seeking alternative forms of expression. In this work, I propose a re-reading of the poetic production of both artists regarding disenchantment, a term examined by Florencia Garramuño, and its links to dailiness. I will also seek to outline a fabric of convergences in relation to the philosophy of liberation, a school of thought conceived by Enrique Dussel.
