Derrida: Translation, Testimony and “Otobiography”

Abstract

This paper examines passages of works by Saint Augustine, Nietzsche and Walter Benjamin based on certain themes proposed by Jacques Derrida, with an emphasis on the issue of translation and writing as an inscription of the self. The problem (the Benjaminian Aufgabe, that is, a necessary and impossible task) is how to translate the untranslatable, namely, the life, the necessity and the impossibility of this translation, narrated from the philosophy of these four authors.

Keywords:
Translation; testimony; confession; writing of the self; Verstellung
