Abstract
With a new critical gaze based on the theory of auctorial scenographies developed by José-Luis Diaz, this article seeks to investigate the polemic about the Cartas sobre a Confederação dos Tamoios - one of the definitive moments for the dynamization of the Brazilian literary field. The paper will analyze the implications for auctorial self-representations, the role played by the circulation of social imaginaries, and the role of French romanticism in the composition of José de Alencar’s auctorial scenography outlined in the controversy.
