The article discusses important questions of literary criticism and theory stemming from a new book of Eduardo Coutinho: the problem of the "majority" of theory in Latin America, the unalterable necessity of esthetic values within the discussion around cultural studies, observations about "the poor literary elite", and the relationship between marxism (Adorno) and post-Colonial studies.
