Since the creation of the word "autofiction" by French writer Serge Doubrovsky in order to define his novel entitled Fils, in 1977, there have been lots of controversies among French literature professors who study the subject and never achieve a consensus about its correct definition. Nevertheless, the word is even more popular nowadays, as it is widely used by contemporary authors in many literatures. In this article, some of these controversial discussions are exposed, as well as some examples of autofictions in Brazilian literature.
