This text depicts how Patrick Chamoiseau (born in Martinique in 1953) undertakes a rewriting of the affects and archives of the slavery's period in the novel Un dimanche au cachot (2007), continuing a subject that was already present in preceding books. He endeavors a working through, in Freudian terms, reminding a story/history as a means of healing the trauma that has been repressed. Chamoiseau mixes up history and fiction in order to create, in a non realistic style, a certain atmosphere during the slavery's period, incorporating a historical character - Victor Schoelcher - but showing him before the important facts and actions he accomplished.
