Abstract
The article discusses the political trajectory of one of the leaders of the Conservative Party of Pernambuco, the (viscount de Camaragibe), seeking, in dialogue with historiography, to verify what strategies and networks he has woven to advance his political career. In this trajectory, he emphasized his condition as party chief, which made him a fundamental mediator in the relations between the central government and its party in Pernambuco. The observation of the various functions and obligations that he had as a party leader, such as the definition of his party’s ticket and the orientation of his party in Parliament in important votes, was highlighted in this work. Its conclusions indicate that the most important position occupied by the Viscount de Camaragibe was not that of deputy general and neither that of senator, but that of head of his party in his province.
