Parque do Povo: um patrimônio do futebol de várzea em São Paulo

The present article seeks to discuss the constitution of a piece of São Paulo's cultural heritage which is linked to the popular culture universe, substantiating the reasons that brought awareness to the issue of protecting one of the last amateur football parks in the city of São Paulo. We also aim to discuss the conditions and circumstances which led to its disappearance, in an attempt by city government to revitalize the area in 2006. The objective of the article is to question the discourse which was used to justify the interventions in the park, resulting in a change to its historic status and, thus, call attention to the direction of public heritage policy in São Paulo.
