In order to divulgate the therapeutic advantages of frontal leucotomy according to the technique of Egaz Moniz, especially concerning life risks and secondary complications, the results obtained on the first 100 women patients so treated in the Hospital de Juqueri (São Paulo), are here presented. No selection of cases was made with reference to general conditions and duration of mental disease. Furthermore, the operation was performed only on? patients in which all other treatments had failed. In spite of these factors, complete remission or definite improvement was observed in 24% of the cases. The authors belives that a selection of patients wold increase the percentage of good results.
