Spinal cysticercosis: report of two cases with surgical treatment.

Two cases of spinal cysticercosis are reported, both with spinal cord compression. In the first one the etiologic diagnosis before operation was made by the positivity of the complement fixation test for cysticercosis and the presence of eosinophilic cells in the spinal fluid; in the other case these tests were negative and the diagnosis was established at operation room. The surgical removal of the cysts in both cases yielded poor results possibly by the interference of inflammatory adhesive arachnoiditis. Intracis-ternal administration of corticosteroids relieved the neurological manifestations in the second case.
