ART AS PROJECT, PROJECT AS ART

ABSTRACT

Departing from the intense questioning of Giulio Carlo Argan in the beginning of the 1960s, this article discusses the crisis of the concept of project in his thought and relates it historically with the emergence of the project as a subgenre in Conceptual Art. On the one hand, this relation is articulated through the exam of two tendencies endorsed by Argan: Programmed Art and pittura analitica . On the other hand, it is conceived against the background of consolidation of the art market in the referred period. Finally, the analysis of Antonio Dias’ work during this historical context aims to describe more clearly the dialectical tie between both the categories in question: art as project and project as art .
