BETWEEN THE RUIN AND THE CONSTRUCTION SITE: JOSÉ RESENDE IN MOOCA

ABSTRACT

In 2012, artist José Resende, in collaboration with philosopher Nelson Brissac and engineer Heloísa Maringoni, proposed an intervention in the Mooca neighborhood, São Paulo downtown, in the midst of a process of urban restructuring and gentrification. However, his proposal Operations Site could not be carried out and led to two other proposals for interventions that took place under the same name. This essay assumes the task of telling the story of what happened and what did not happen, elaborating its web of times between failures and potentials, experiences and expectations, or between the critical claim of a past and the imagination of future possibilities. Or, still, between the ruin and the construction site.
