This article examines the trajectory of the Italian artist Bramante Buffoni, and its importance for the understanding of applied arts as a sign of modernity in Brazil. Buffoni arrived in São Paulo in 1953, where he worked with several important agents of the cultural environment of São Paulo, such as Pietro Maria Bardi and Francisco Matarazzo Sobrinho. The artist worked with various media and techniques, from the graphic language of the posters to the field of interior decoration. The presence of Buffoni’s work in the modern collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo elicites a renewed approach to the understanding of this vast collection, which includes an expanded range of art objects.
