Roy Lichtenstein or on mechanical reproduction

ABSTRACT

In Lichtenstein's poetics, style and iconography are both important. The painter is concerned less with the object than with the style of its treatment in order to obtain an image presented as a totality. The use of mass images can be considered a test on cliché as subject matter and on the conventions of modern painting.
